Weapons and Windmills, Quarks and Quagmires: SPS 2015 Visits the Department of Energy

The St. Albans School of Public Service was lucky enough today to be able to visit the Headquarters of the Department of Energy which, according to the current Secretary of Energy,  has a mission that encompasses "weapons and windmills, quarks and quagmires."  The Department of Energy, which it had its roots in the WWII era Manhattan Project, now has a sweeping role that includes everything from responsibility for the security of America's nuclear plants to serving as an investor and driver for private sector innovation in renewable energy technology.  We were lucky enough to be able to hear from the Deputy Secretary of Energy, Dr. Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, about key elements of the Department's mission and on her own path to public service.  And last but not least, everybody liked getting a badge that said "VIP"!
