After a weekend that included the SPS Garden Party and Alumni Day and outings to a baseball game, the Smithsonian Folk Life Festival, and bowling**, it's back to work for the St. Albans School of Public Service Class of 2011. Today's busy day includes classes in Public Speaking and Economics; a visit from public health pioneer Dr. Anthony Fauci; a case study examining the rules of engagement in Afghanistan; and another shot at a twilight tour of the monuments on the National Mall. Good thing everyone looked well-rested at breakfast!
(**By all accounts, the highlight of the bowling outing was the bus ride. Really. Several enterprising students were able to get live feeds of the Women's World Cup USA vs. Brazil on their cellphones, and apparently the progress of the bus startled a few passerby as loud and exhilarated chants of "USA! USA!" emerged from it during the exciting conclusion to the game as the US team triumphed in penalty kicks.)
