SPS 2011: Private Tour of the National Portrait Gallery
Today our group was lucky enough to receive a private tour of the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery from curator Wendy Wick Reeves. Ms. Reeves gave us insight into another side of public service -- the work of curators at national museums such as the National Portrait Gallery. Interestingly, there can be a political dimension to the work; for example, it is important in the gallery of Presidents that the modern presidents have portraits of approximately the same size. The gallery of Presidents was a big hit with our group in general, and the group enjoyed the melding of portraiture and history evident throughout the museum.
