SPS 2011 . . . A Conversation with a U.S. Supreme Court Justice

Just 48 hours after arguing a real case from the Supreme Court's current term in the SPS mock Supreme Court argument, the St. Albans School of Public Service Class of 2011 got a taste of the real thing. We got a private tour of the historic court building, including the beautiful conference rooms notable for their ornate chandeliers and the many fine portraits of past Chief Justices, but the highlight of the day was yet to come. U.S. Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan (pictured above, at center, with SPS 2011), the newest member of the Supreme Court, took the time to have an extended question-and-answer session with SPS on subjects ranging from Constitutional theory to courtroom procedure. Not just the future lawyers at SPS, but the whole class, came away impressed and excited by the opportunity to engage with Justice Kagan. (And who knows? Maybe in 40 years or so a future SPS class will be hosted by an SPS alum!)
